When I started looking to update my backcountry ski setup, I was looking for a ski that would be light enough to shine on the uphill, while staying stable and powerful enough for the downhill. The Backland 102 made the short list, and when I finally pulled the trigger and bought it, mounted it with a Shift, and took it out into the backcountry, I wasn't disappointed. This ski is light, maneuverable, stable, and playful, and it is shockingly good at cutting through those weird melt/freeze conditions. It doesn't kill me on the uphill, and it's truly fun and reliable to ski on the downhill. This ski ranks at the top for a true crossover ski, and whether you're looking for a light ski for the resort, a stable ski in the backcountry, or both, this ski will not disappoint.

2020 Atomic Backland 102 W Description:

Word on the street is that you came down with a case of backcountry fever. Don't worry - it is a curable condition. If, that is, you have the ability to go ski touring. The Atomic Backland 102 W gives you the chance to dive skis first into backcountry action without having to make the tough choice between touring gear and resort gear. The Backland is both! Pair these skis with a versatile touring binding like the Salomon/Atomic/Armada Shift, and you get one setup for all your skiing. Atomic touring skis consistently rank among the industry's best for skiability, meaning they do not compromise performance for weight savings. With a friendly, powder-happy rocker profile and enough edge grip for mixed snow, the Backland 102 W is made for rad women skiers who just flat out want everything.
