This Ski Is A Staff Favorite:

As someone who skis a lot of freestyle-oriented skis (Line SFB, Faction Mana, Volkl Revolt, etc.), I love how playful and maneuverable they are, but I have been on the hunt for something that's more stable. The Armada ARV 106 has filled that void perfectly. It's not as buttery/flexbile as a lot of skis in this category - or even the older versions of this same ski for that matter (pre-2021) - but it offers a pretty impressive level of dampness, stability, and support for skiing aggressively. Not to mention, it's super maneuverable and easy to ski for how stable it is.

It has the slash-and-play feel of a freestyle ski, just in a much heavier, stiffer-flexing package. That makes the ARV 106 quite a bit more challenging to butter, press, and spin on than something like a Line Sir Francis Bacon, but it's also WAY more confidence-inspiring when I'm skiing chop/variable or attempting (with varying success) to stomp airs. Overall, it's been a great ski for a "playful-charger" approach to the mountain, with a bit more emphasis on the playful. At 6'1" and 185lbs, the 188cm is perfect as an everyday driver for me in Colorado.

The ARV 106 is deceiving at first flex. It feels like a soft ski that would be most comfortable at mellow speeds lapping the park. There is more to this skis story, and I found out that it is much more of an all-mountain missile then it would lead it's rider think. The skis soft flex in the tips and tails help it track over uneven terrain, yet the supportive mid-section keeps it tracking a smooth line. It has a playful personality that loves to pop off stumps and moguls, and carves forward and switch with a sprightly and encouraging demeanor. A great one ski quiver for a new school skier that likes to have fun with the mountain, but not just in the terrain park.

    Our Take:

For half a decade, the Armada ARV line has defined the all-mountain freestyle ski category. They continue to set the bar high, back for 2019-2020 with just a topsheet update. The ARV 106 is a slashy and surfy powder hunter that, built with AR75 Sidewalls and ash stringers, also brings serious backbone. So when you are standing on top of a cornice in the back bowls wondering if the snow below you is soft or chunky, you now have no excuse for not dropping - the ARV 106 can handle all of it. That versatility and freestyle prowess also extends from the trees and bumps to the terrain park. What does all-mountain freestyle really mean? It means recess....all the time.
