I had a chance to test this ski on a bluebird day following a massive 2-foot storm at Wolf Creek Ski area in Southern Colorado. The most obvious area where this ski shines is in deep, un-tracked powder. The wide dimensions along with the fully rockered profile making floating in the pow an absolute blast. While we certainly would not call the V Werks Katana a quiver of one, I was blown away at the versatility of this ski. Towards the end of the day, after all of the obvious lines were skied up, the stiffness (stemming from the carbon construction) allowed me to power over and through any chop that I would encounter. So, the stiffness worked to my advantage in the wide open chop yet somehow was not too demanding when trying to turn in tight bumps and trees. Understanding that I did not have a chance to ski this on hard pack conditions along with the reverse camber design, a person would want to have a skinnier, more front side option for skiing at the area. These skis are pretty light for their size so many folks have set these up as Alpine Touring rigs. A true 10/10 ski in my opinion!!

Our Take On The 2024 Volkl V Werks Katana:

The Katana V.Werks is an elegant ski built using Volkl's finest construction and manufacturing techniques. It is also a no-holds-barred bruiser of a big mountain ski that does not mess around with slow speeds and wimpy terrain. Volkl uses 3D.Ridge Carbon, an ICE.OFF topsheet, and a full carbon jacket to trim all the fat from this ski leaving a lean mountain crushing machine. The SkinPin in the tip alludes to this skis intentions of getting off the grid where it's antics and aggressive style won't scare the locals. If you like the idea of your ski pushing you to ride harder, while looking like it could also be on display at the Smithsonian, then the V.Werks Katana is what you have been searching for.
