The Volkl Shiro is a big, fully rockered powder ski that, somehow, still delivers when conditions take a turn for the non-powdery. With the extended low-profile rocker design, the tips and tails float in the deep stuff, but the entire ski will also engage when put on edge for smooth and precise carving that seems nearly impossible on a plank this wide. The Shiro benefits from a multi-layer sensorwood core, built with poplar in the tip and tail for a light and lively feel and ash underfoot for power and durability. That wood core is milled and vertically laminated then wrapped with composite/fiberglass to provide strength and snap. An extra layer of carbon backbone adds further torsional rigidity without extra weight. Volkl knows how to make versatile big mountain skis, and the Shiro, with its unsinkable float and uncanny carving ability, is perhaps their greatest creation.Ski Features:Core: Multi-Layer SensorwoodTough Box ConstructionRocker Design: Full RockerIntended use: 80% ungroomed/20% groomedAwards:Ski Magazine Gold Medal Gear 2014Skiing Magazine Testers Choice 2014Freestyle Magazine Editors Pick 2014On the Snow Editors Choice 2014
